Abstract

This research was motivated by the need to improve students' critical thinking skills in learning jazz guitar improvisation, especially in the application of brokenchord techniques. The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of the Inquiry Learning Model in improving students' critical thinking skills in elementary guitar courses. The research method used is classroom action research with a qualitative approach, involving observation, interviews, and analysis of student evaluation results. The results showed that the application of the Inquiry Learning Model significantly improved students' critical thinking skills, especially in terms of formulating problems, providing arguments, performing deduction and induction, and evaluating. Students showed a deeper understanding of the concept of jazz guitar improvisation and were able to apply it more creatively and reflectively. In conclusion, the Inquiry Learning Model is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills, making it a method that can be recommended for wider application in music learning, especially in the context of developing improvisation skills.
